Founded in 1994, Brownfield Restoration Group became one of the first companies to purchase environmentally distressed real estate and assume the associated liability. Anticipating the changes in the regulatory environment and the emergence of environmental insurance products, BRG pioneered the “Brownfield” transaction and completed some of the nation’s first liability transfer acquisitions from Fortune 500 companies. Since inception, the company has emerged as a market leader in acquiring, managing, redeveloping and divesting single assets and corporate portfolios of surplus, environmentally impaired real estate.
BRG has maintained its leadership position in the market by securing capital from a dedicated real estate investment fund managed by a major multi-strategy investment firm. In addition, BRG has expanded its capabilities by aligning itself with a national development company that has developed over two million square feet of retail, office, commercial, industrial and residential facilities throughout the country.
Since 1994, we have acquired over 100 properties while protecting sellers, future owners and communities from the risks and liabilities associated with environmental contamination. A typical acquisition involves an As Is – Where Is purchase and providing the seller with an indemnification supported by the use of environmental insurance. However, every transaction is different and BRG prides itself in working closely with sellers to provide customized solutions that work for all parties.
In addition to working in conjunction with the property sellers, we also work closely with the environmental authorities having jurisdiction over the property. All sites are remediated to the proper level based on the future use of the property as governed by the laws of the state and local authorities. Upon completion of our remediation efforts, we obtain the necessary documents from the environmental agencies certifying that remediation is complete, meets the agency’s requirements and is safe for the proposed used.
